Start with the occasion
An owner’s dinner, a reception for charter guests and a party alongside a yacht show need different musical pacing. Begin your brief with the guest profile, the reason for the gathering and whether conversation or dancing should lead. A short description of the atmosphere is more useful than a list of a hundred tracks.
Plan the transition, not just the playlist
Separate arrival drinks, dinner and the later party in the running order. Decide when the music can move forward, and who will give the cue if timings change. A smooth evening leaves room for the unexpected: a late arrival, a longer dinner or guests ready to dance earlier than planned.
Confirm the setup with the crew
Ask for the available DJ equipment and connection details, rather than assuming the yacht’s entertainment system is suitable. Share photos of the intended DJ position. Confirm power, cable routes, weather protection and the space available. The captain or crew should validate the location and operating conditions before equipment is brought aboard.
Give access its own schedule
A booking time is not an installation time. Agree on the berth or meeting point, boarding arrangements, load-in window, soundcheck and removal. If the event is at anchor, confirm transfers and equipment handling with the organiser. Share one reliable on-site contact so the music team and crew can coordinate.
